Prehistoric Impressions by Neffra Matthews: Rosey Blues

Greetings

Hi, I am Neffra Matthews. Welcome to my intermixed world of science and art. My medium is fibers, fabrics, yarns, dyes, beads, paints, and papers, with other bits of the world added for good measure. As a child I loved to knit and sew, and also to search the hills of western Kentucky with my parents in search of rocks and fossils. The love of geology and paleontology started early and carried me to a degree in Geology from the University of Kentucky. Currently my day job involves make 3D images of paleontological and archaeological sites. I find it an exciting means to be in the field and to create virtual visualizations of unique places and things. As and artist, I am always excited to try new methods, to learn and practice new techniques, and to work with color. My goal is to use my abilities to take my scientific knowledge and depict it artistically, to engage the viewer on multiple levels. To share with them an appreciation of the art in our natural world.
